O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
Today the antiphon is O Oriens (O Dayspring or Rising Dawn), when we pray again to be lifted out of darkness.
O Oriens, splendor lucis aeternae, et sol justitiae; veni, et illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.
O Dayspring, Splendor of eternal light and Sun of Justice,
come and enlighten them that sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death.
